Mid-2012 MacBook Pro SSD Installation and OS install

April 2, 2017

My dad gave his MacBook Pro to my sister after I replaced the hard drive cable because he already purchased a new computer. The screwdriver and cable took a long time to come from Amazon, so my dad decided to buy a new laptop for his finances instead of waiting. At the same time, I wanted to get a new hard drive to hackintosh my system, so I bought an SSD and put it in my sister's MacBook Pro (the one my dad used to use), and I put the old Mac hard drive in my computer.

NOTE: YOU NEED A TORX T6 SCREWDRIVER

The SSD installation was surprisingly easy because it followed many of the same steps that I took when replacing the hard drive cable. I used a SanDisk 240GB SSD which can be found here: http://a.co/fL906K1. Here's a picture of it that I took:

The boot time is much quicker than earlier, and the computer is much faster than before. I used the same tool as I did when I changed the cable, which can be found here: https://a.co/1XGGO9R. So, on to the tutorial.
1. Turn the macbook on its back and unscrew the screws.

2. Remove the cover and unscrew the two screws on the bracket.

3. Detach the cable from the hard drive.
4. Remove the hard drive from the computer.
5. Unscrew the 4 screws on the outside using the torx t6 screwdriver.

6. Screw the torx screws on the outside of the SSD/HDD that you purchased.
7. Plug the hard drive cable into the new hard drive.
8. Put the new hard drive into the hard drive space in the Mac.
9. Screw the bracket back on.

10. Put the back case where it was before and screw it in.
11. Hold down ⌘ + R while turning on the computer. You should be greeted by a screen that looks like the one below.

12. Select the dropdown menu and select your wi-fi network.

13. Enter in your Wi-Fi password (if you have one).

14. After recovery loads, press Reinstall OS X
