I have completed my first two weeks of ISM (and Junior year) and I’m not quite sure it’s all hit me yet! I feel like so far it’s been quite successful. Through completing several introductory assignments, such as writing our Mission Statements and About Me speeches, I began fluctuating between focusing my study on several different fields of law. I’ve landed on criminal, probably the most risky and yet interesting areas I was considering. Going forward in ISM, I have a sense of nervous excitement to start reaching out and conducting informational interviews. There’s so much I can't wait to learn, things that can't just be read off the internet, I just have to start phrasing these concepts into interview questions! I’ve also found that during my free time, whenever I’m not at band or doing assignments for my classes, I am gravitating towards forms of media that are about law (despite however inaccurate they might be). In the past 2 weeks alone, I’ve re-watched several of my favorite shows and movies (How To Get Away With Murder, Legally Blonde, etc.) that throughout my life have played a unique role in inspiring me to research this field. Beyond that, I’ve found myself immersed in googling possible professionals to interview (using LinkedIn, too). Although I've done all this research, I have yet to reach out to anyone. As I've even been finding informational articles about astounding individuals inside the field, it is only bringing me a larger sense of urgency. I’m aware the reality of an education in law is probably nothing like what’s being depicted in the media, and yet as I watch it all, I can’t help my growing excitement about diving in head first. I'm more ready than ever to start learning the truth about this field (the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.) :)
