The stability of the country's economic development largely depends on the physical and spiritual development of the child, the attitude of the state and society to problems of children, their interests and needs. Today's Ukrainian society is characterized by such a connection: with the reduction of potential human and spiritual values, the phenomenon of child abandonment is manifested actively – the number of children deprived of parental care is a growing.
In Ukraine there are active and constantly evolving forms of family placement of children such as adoption, foster family, custody / guardianship, children's home of family type, foster families. Citizens willing to adopt a child, are too many. The government, in its turn, is trying to support and encourage people who have decided to adopt a child into their family. For these families, special events and financial assistance are provided. But, despite this fact, considerable difficulties arise when we speak of adolescents (11-18 years) and children with disabilities. Hypothetically, they have no chance to get into the family, they are doomed to remain in institutions until they are adults. But these guys, deprived of positive sample in their lives, moms and dads and families at large, still need the support of a significant person, – a Friend! It is the Friend, who will teach and advise them each moment of their being.
HopeNow USA provides orphans a real life change through building a relationship with caring Christian volunteers.
Mentoring, as a form of communication and caring about the child, has a deep tradition. Mentoring is inseparable part of each child. I'm sure, everyone remembers their mentors: these are the people who helped us, taught us, worried and cared about us. And these people were pretty many.
Orphan children lack not only families, but also any other relations, acquaintances, friends and relatives that are typical of a sound family environment. A teen who is devoid of such links, has nobody to rely on, no one to turn to with a question or to confide in. Here a mentor can play an invaluable role in a child's life!
Perhaps a mentor will not replace a child's lost family ties, but he will be able to take care of him/ her, teach to plan and achieve vital goals, able to make them believe in themselves again and to love life. It is a difficult and responsible, but very pleasant communication, which brings joy from being able to change someone's fate for the better.
