DANCE MAKING DEFINED

At KMD dance making is presented as an art form. Our dance studies include a balance of technique, improvisation, and composition. Performance is a natural outcome of our activities in the dance studio but not necessarily the main emphasis. At the end of each dance workshop, students have the opportunity to present their dance compositions. These choreographic presentations range from being most informal to being true dance concerts.

BENEFITS OF DANCE MAKING

It’s been my experience that total engagement can make learning deep and memorable

You'll Become Focused &

Engaged in Your Learning:

In all dance studies, you'll always work with specific points of focus as you move.

As you focus your mind, as well as your movements, you'll experience an immediate and simultaneous fusion of intention, action, feeling, and awareness.

The creative process demands a rethinking of how students apply information, -it isn’t just moving, it's translating information into movement.

You'll Learn to Apply Your

Kinesthetic Intelligence:

Together with more traditional ways of receiving, recording, and reflecting knowledge, you will also use your bodily-kinesthetic intelligence to learn and show what you know about different topics, concepts, and processes through movement.

Once our students realize there's not just one right answer, but a range of more and less effective choices, they're inspired to take greater risks and invest themselves more deeply as learners, dance makers, and performers.

You'll Develop & Refine Your

Higher Level Thinking Skills:

Movement experiences in the dance studio will develop your deep thinking skills by engaging in exploration, creative problem solving, and decision-making.

Our lives are enhances when we experience the artistic expression of others.

You'll Learn to Communicate

in Unique Ways:

Working creativity will develop your thinking skills and will empower you as an individual.

No matter how large or small the workspace, students can learn to move within clearly defined parameters.

You'll Develop Your

Spatial Awareness:

You will become attentive of the space that you are moving in, your personal space, and the space of others.

When our students move, they show their hearts and their minds,-their movements are authentic communication.

You'll Cooperate & Collaborate

with Each Other:

As a student of KMD, you'll constantly work with classmates as fellow movers & collaborators.

Dance is a natural way for you to express your exuberance and imaginative response to life and the world around you.
