Mastery is not as straight forward as
routine practice. How to Eat A Pomegranate showcases a puzzling
juxtaposition of effort and ease. The contrived and manipulated phrasing of the
work was paired with a dry composure to elude the task at hand, or the process
of learning it, was simple. The goal was to find freedom and a nonchalant calmness
in the parade of complex footwork, precise spatial design, and quirky gestures.
In an endeavor to discombobulate old movement patterns, the worked aimed to
unlock ones superfluidity: the sweet spot between boredom and anxiety, where
one's skill level can perfectly match the level of challenge in a given moment of dancing.
