Through my initial weeks in ISM, nothing has benefitted me more than communicating and learning from real-world people. The Business Symposium was a wonderful event held at Independence High School where I improved my ability to converse with other students and professionals along with absorbing in the knowledge of several different careers.

To begin, the Business Symposium began with a lecture from Mr. Wysong, CEO of Tumebleweed TextStyles, who I found very interesting. What triggered my attention during his presentation was his dedication to striving in the present-day business world. He mentioned that he has started up several businesses and websites in his spare time and Tumbleweed TextStyles boomed. He also mentioned core values that were non-negotiables, daily characteristics, expect the unexpected, and what I stand for as a person. I believe these values are very important for me in the young years of learning because what I develop right now will be what I take in the future. Another piece of advice I took from him was the personal building. Who I interact with and who I talk to right now are crucial to my development as an adult. What I took from this piece of advice was to develop friendships and connections with people who possess all the positive and successful characteristics. Along with connections, Mr. Wysong also mentioned the power of Social Media which grabbed my attention. Advertising and presenting on social media is a big way of getting my idea out there. I felt connected to advertising on social media because I know a lot of people through social media and it could help me advertise my products in the future.

While visiting several professionals, I met Mrs. Stephanie Wagoner, Director of Business Retention and Expansion of Frisco, who mentioned the five billion dollar mile. Even though I chose finance as my topic of study, I was introduced to the study of Economic Development which intrigued me. I knew so much about the ideas and buildings she mentioned because I live near the are of development. In fact, my family is building two hotels within that area and she he knew all about them.

Also, I met Mr. Ravi Lothumalla, CEO of 1-800-Internships, who was an entrepreneur himself. I connected with him because he pulled me to the side after I told him I was looking for an internship. 1-800-Internships is an experiential service that offered volunteer work, paid internships, 24/7 support, and paid jobs. I will definitely look into his work and I want to learn more about his business as a whole. He also managed an IT company that just began, but he mentioned the present-day need for coding and technical professionals in the market. I personally did take a class in computer science, but I soon realized it was not my cup of tea when I started falling behind in labs and experiments.

My overall visit to the Business Symposium was a success because I made more connections with students, connected with professionals, and gained advice from a successful CEO. I could relate to most of the people there because finance was a famous topic that most professionals know about.
