As my topic of study this year, I would like to pursue finance. Specifically, I am seeking to head towards CPA Finance (Certified Financial Analysis). Through my years, I have always been interested in math and making assumptions which has always been my strongest aspect in relation to school. My goal for this year is to become more familiar with the CPA environment and expand my skills within this field.

As a young boy, I remember always talking to the bankers and normal people, asking what they do and why they like it. Realistically, I loved talking to the bankers because they always had something new to tell every time we visited, not to mention the constant lollipops I had been given. Everything about banks always interests me because if it hadn’t been for my dad, I would have never known the levels behind banking. This past summer, I was blessed with the opportunity to shadow in on one of my father’s oil deals which helped me witness what really happens in everyday CFA life’s. Everything from the dress code to the way financial analyst communicates with their clients is something I noticed from that visit. Most of my dedication to learning about finance has been out of school including internships and conversations. Recently, I spoke to a owner of the State Bank of Texas, Chadrakant Patel, who told me stories and experiences he witnessed as an owner.

Maintaining communication between people has always been one thing I never lost. It is a social trait I cherish about myself that reduces the tension of awkwardness. I can go on and talk forever in conversation and I am one to notice when the conversation is over. Along with that, I love numbers and math. Two years ago, I double-blocked Geometry and Algebra II which I never regret doing. Making that decision, placed me two years ahead of standard math classes and I love the challenge it brings. Sometimes I have to make inferences and logical predictions on questions, which leads me to another skill. Making assumptions and predictions is one skill that I have recently developed. As I got older, school and other activities in life became a struggle that gave me the ability to make assumptions and choose the better outcome. I have realized in today’s world that communication is key to majority of careers and attracting clients, customers, and investors brings good outcomes. CFA finance is not the easiest career to choose because nowadays everybody is trying to get accepted into these programs. However, communication, numbers, and predicting are all different skills that give me an increase in my identity as a whole.
