An illustrator and visual artist operating out of Ottawa, Andrea Sutton has been drawing professionally and taking commissions since the mid 90's. A proud graduate of the Illustration program at Sheridan College, Andrea quickly developed a strong interest for anatomical and botanical illustration, which brought her to travel to Vancouver and work with marine biologist Bob Devrede. While there, she completed an algae identification poster which still hangs in the Nature House at Stanley Park. Since then, she has produced hundreds of illustrations for various medical and first aid posters, brochures, and publications including the St.John's Ambulance First Aid Manual.
An accomplished portraitist, Andrea has also taken a variety of commissions over the years; either drawing live individuals, reproducing conversation pieces, family portraits, or undertaking memorial portraits through various funeral homes. An extension of her passion for real life illustration and observation skills, her portraits are said to carry the spirit of the subject with respect and grace.
Aside from her technical illustrations and portraiture, Andrea has also developed an established art practice within Ottawa's artistic community which continue to provide her with peer support and artistic acuteness.
Her graphite works which mostly depict figurative, anecdotal, and strong feminine characters, have been exhibited on several occasions throughout the national capital's galleries and artistic circles, and attracted the public and press attention more than once. Her multifaceted career and evolving technique, nurtured by a strong artistic education and free spirited family heritage, have made Andrea Sutton an experienced visual artist with a remarkable attention to detail.
