This past week we gave an introduction speech about who we are and why we chose to study the topic we did. Presenting the speech was a nerve racking task for me as public speaking is a weakness for me; however, after having completed the speech, I felt more confident for overcoming my phobia. The speech marked a turning point for me early on in my ISM career as I gained the confidence to know that no matter how hard something is for me, I can still do it.

The next major activity I did in the program is completing my first research assessment of the year. In my research, I looked at a career outlook for neurosurgeons. This has greatly increased my understanding of the environment and lifestyle of a neurosurgeon, so I am more prepared and cognizant of what is to come. I looked into the lifestyle of a neurosurgeon along with the projected growth of the field and I am now preparing to reach out to some of the professionals on my contact list. This will be another big step for me as reaching out to professionals I have never met before may be intimidating. It will push me outside of my comfort zone, forcing me to challenge myself and grow. I look forward to the future challenges in ISM that will continue to push me to grow as a person and future professional.
