Dr. Lega was incredibly helpful as he told me about his experiences in the profession and how his weeks tend to pan out. The interview provided me with insight into each aspect of the responsibilities of a neurosurgeon because Dr. Lega took the time to breakdown the three different aspects of his job: surgery, research, and clinical work.

Wednesday was the Business Symposium. For me, the symposium was a great experience. During the networking time, I managed to find an unexpected connection through a professional who works in marketing, Mrs. Raye. She placed me in contact with one of her friends who has a daughter studying medicine. The daughter has two mentors through UT Southwestern, and because of the connections I made at the symposium, I have been invited to meet both the daughter and her mentors over lunch or dinner. In addition, I was invited to attend a symposium at UT Southwestern about strokes in November.

At the symposium, I also received a connection at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Frisco. This was exciting for me because it is the first connection I have gotten on this side of town. In addition, I found out that Baylor Scott & White is beginning to allow students to shadow doctors again, making this connection even more vital to my journey. I have now reached out to the neurosurgeon and am waiting on a response, but the person I met at the symposium, Ms. Fuller, told me that the doctor has agreed to meet with me, so at this point, it is a matter of scheduling and waiting to hear back from Dr. Banister.
