In addition to my speech on Monday, I had my first mentor visit on Wednesday. The mentor visit went better than I ever could have expected. During the visit, I had the opportunity to speak to a third-year resident, an administrative assistant, a neurosurgical nurse, and a second-year medical student. It was interesting to see how each person was able to give me a slightly different perspective on their involvement in the field and the way that the different positions interact with the surgeon. In addition to speaking with the different people involved in neurosurgery, I also had the opportunity to sit in on a lab meeting with several of the members of Dr. Lega's lab. During the meeting, I got to hear about the different trials being conducted; it was incredible to see the collaboration between the members. Although each person was conducting their own trial under my mentor's guidance, everyone there helped one another. If one person had subjects with data that could be used in another person's trial, the person would willingly share, creating a team feel to the environment.
