I have completed my overview of the first pathway, the uncinate fasciculus, and analyzed how the role of the connection relates to epilepsy and the case I was previously studying. However, I as I am beginning to look into the second key area, the diagonal band of Broca, I am finding difficulty in analyzing it as most of the information I have found is indefinite. There is still a great deal of unknown in relation to the diagonal band of Broca, proving it to be a challenge to find confirmed functional roles in order to establish how the segment of the brain contributes to the mimicking characteristics of epilepsy in the orbitofrontal cortex to that of mesial temporal lobe epilepsy. Regardless, I am beginning to create a solid foundation for this section, which I will continue to refine and develop next week. I also need to redo my topic proposal to match my new product as well as adjust my calendar to account for the shift. In the end, I am hoping my final product can be used as a tool by Dr. Lega to help his residents understand a few of the most significant neurological connections in epileptic cases relating to temporal lobe epilepsy.
