Born of swimming pools, skateparks were thriving in the early eighties. During this time, Stacy Peralta joined with designer George Powell to form Powell Peralta skateboards. To promote the brand, Stacy determined the creation of a team from the mostly hungry and talented youthful skaters would prove successful. The team of no names athletes would soon generate massive ripples throughout the sport, and create modern skateboarding and skateparks. Additionally, Stacy hired photographer Craig Stecyk as Art Director. With this hiring, the two brainstormed and officially dubbed the team the Bones Brigade. The Bones Brigade consisted of core members Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Rodney Mullen, Lance Mountain, Mike McGill, and Tommy Guerrero. Furthermore, members of the legendary team contributed their own unique and lasting impact to skateboarding. Tony Hawk, arguably the most well known skateboarder in history, crafted a majority of transition skateboarding tricks and significantly assisted in shaping the modern skatepark. Lance Mountain brought the average person to skateboarding professionals by providing inspiring video parts featuring tricks which were obtainable by the viewers, all while exuding fun. Mike McGill changed vert skating by inventing a forward rotating off axis 540, aptly named the Mctwist. Tommy Guerrero was the first professional street skateboarder and was skating street when all others skated transition. Steve Caballero, created a variety of tricks including the caballerial (a backwards or fakie 360 ollie), and is considered to be one of the best skaters of all time. Finally, the “godfather of street skating”, Rodney Mullen created almost all flip tricks, and most importantly changed skateboarding with the moving Ollie (a rolling maneuver, where rider jumps lifting the skateboard into the air).
