Drawing and painting is like falling in love. I see a face, a landscape, a body, a shape that I fall in love with - not the person to whom the body or face belongs, but the shapes, surfaces, lines, colors, the way they meet and contrast each other. A line where shoulder and arm dance into a meeting, a laced stretch of trees in a dusty horizon, a loud collision of colors under a scorching sun. It is an intoxicating infatuation that requires study and elaboration, a love poem written with a brush on the canvas.
