Elites: whEre would we be without their compassionate wisdom

Psalm 92:12

The [uncompromisingly] righteous shall flourish like the palm tree [be long-lived, stately, upright, useful, and fruitful];they shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon [majestic, stable, durable, and incorruptible]. 13 Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God. 14 [Growing in grace] they shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap [of spiritual vitality] and [rich in the] verdure [of trust, love, and contentment]. 15 [They are living memorials] to show that the Lord is upright and faithful to His promises; He is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him. (Amplified Bible)

In her vibrant and encouraging tone, Lelia told us how these verses are a picture of The Elite. They describe us as the uncompromisingly righteous; for we have been made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (2 Cor. 5:21). And for this reason, we are likened to the long-lived, useful palm tree and the stable and incorruptible Lebanon cedar. She continued that we stand planted, positioned, and growing in grace in the house of the Lord. Lelia's excitement mounted with verse 14 as she read we shall still bring forth fruit in old age and shall be full of spiritual vitality and with the fresh healthy growth of trust, love, and contentment. Bottom line, we seniors are living memorials of the God we serve and represent on this earth. We are living, breathing visual aids to His faithfulness and promises. There is still work for us to do. God is not finished with us.

'The Elite' was placed in the heart of Lelia Haggy with its first meeting as recent as January 2014. Our group consists of men and women who are 50 years and older and have a desire for monthly fellowship. We meet in the church basement on the third Sunday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Every month, members bring in various foods for a shared meal and time of fellowship, followed with devotions from one of our group volunteers, and an anointed time of prayer for ourselves and others.

The Elites have a definite agenda. We want to carry out Jesus' Great Commission of reaching people with The Gospel. We believe we can do this by coming together once a month which helps build our individual spiritual growth and allows us to see in a very tangible way that we are not alone but part of something much bigger than ourselves. We want to be an encouragement to other seniors in our church and those beyond our four walls as well. By our example, we want others of our age group to realize God has a plan and purpose for their lives. Age has nothing to do with it. The Lord is our Rock and He has promised.

So, in keeping with our scripture verses, Psalm 92:12-15, we see ourselves as the uncompromisingly righteous, growing in grace, and bringing forth the fruits of maturity as we enjoy our times of ministering, fellowship, and periodic outings. With much to look forward to in the coming months, we invite everyone with such a heart to join us.

God has blessed us to meet several needs. We have: drilled a $4,800 well for a waterless village somewhere in the world, furnished 100 children with shoes, helped purchase coats and other necessities for the homeless and donated to uprooted/abused children, helped build a beautiful facility for nine Christian churches and ministries in Jerusalem, gave additional support for Israel, sowed into missions work in Honduras, provided a family with a weekly home-cooked meal for several months, financially helped more than one family with a serious financial-medical need, and sent cards of get well and encouragement to many.
