Disclaimer - This tutorial will focus mostly on configuring nr2003 to support positional sound output for your sound device . I recommend finding a tutorial based on setting up surround sound specifically if you need help in those regards.

Step 1 - Enabling Surround Sound Vs Stereo

The three options we will look at for sound in NR2003 are Stereo, Surround Sound 5.1, Surround Sound 7.1. All three can offer a rich sound with directional cues when setup correctly. It's really up to you which option you choose going forward. If you are choosing stereo, go to step 2. If not, continue reading.

It is important to determine if your headphones natively support 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound. Some headphones have components built directly into the device, and offer drivers on their site (example). I will not go into depth on how to install the software needed for your specific model as there are hundreds available. Be sure to do a web search to see if your device offers surround sound. if it is supported, install the required drivers and go to step 2. If not, continue reading.

Don't worry if your device does not natively support surround sound. There are still free and paid virtual software options that will work on almost any headphones...

A) Razor Sound Software - Supports 7.1 sound and personalization of profiles for free. Includes other features with purchase of $20 *Requires making a free account

B) Spatial Sound Card Software - Supports 5.1 sound for free, Includes 7.1 and other features with a purchase of $10. I use this personally and it works very well.

(This is the default setting when your player.ini is created)

Uncheck "3d Sound" in the game's option menu

Surround Sound (3d Mode)

Open the following files with notepad and change these lines...

Core.ini > "convert_3d_stereo=1"
