In wenigen Tagen wird die Fotoausstellung „We are all just Stories“, im Rahmen der Mariahilfer Frauenwochen eröffnet. Das Gemeinschaftsprojekt von Sigrid Mayer, Christine Akbaba und Guy Debast zeigt Märchen neu interpretiert. Die Vernissage findet am 19. Oktober, ab 19 Uhr in der EGA Lounge statt, die Bilder sind bis inkl. 3. November zu besichtigen.


Wir haben die 3 Kreativen zum kurzen Interview gebeten.


Sigrid Mayer (Fotografin):


#: Welchen Prominenten würdest du gerne einmal fotografieren?

David Bowie. Der Zug ist zwar abgefahren (R.I.P.), aber eine solche Authentizität trotz der enormen Wandlungsfähigkeit fasziniert mich sehr.

Wenn ich mich für eine lebende Legende entscheiden soll: Selbstverständlich Kate Moss. Every photographer’s dream…



#: Was ist deine persönliche Foto-Philosophie?

Bei Auftragsarbeiten ganz klar:

Gut vorbereitet sein. Und: Die Wünsche des Kunden zu kennen, um sie bestmöglich umzusetzen.


Freie Photo-Produktionen beginnen bei mir immer mit einem Konzept.

Das kann eine Geschichte sein, eine Farbkombination, ein einzelnes Wort, ein Song, …

Die fertigen Bilder habe ich dabei häufig noch gar nicht im Kopf, sondern arbeite während des Shootings intuitiv daran, die Grundidee visuell umzusetzen.

Sobald ich bemerke, dass ein Sujet nicht „funktioniert“, ändere ich etwas daran - 200 Auslösungen vom gleichen Motiv machen ein schlechtes Bild nicht unbedingt besser.


Außerdem finde ich es wichtig, die Grundlagen des Mediums, mit dem man arbeitet, zu kennen. Abgesehen vom technischen Know-How ist das bei der Fotografie auch der geschichtliche Hintergrund - man sollte einfach wissen, was wer wann gemacht hat.



#: Was findet man immer in deiner Kamera-Tasche?

Batterien, obwohl ich meinen Aufsteckblitz nur widerwillig und deshalb so gut wie nie verwende. Und ein Feuerzeug - manchmal hilft in stressigen Zeiten trotz allem nur Kaffee und eine Zigarette.







Christine Akbaba (Hair & Make-Up Artist):


#: Was ist deine Lieblingsfarbe?

Ganz klar – SCHWARZ! Obwohl das ja eigentlich (physikalisch gesehen) gar keine Farbe ist ;) Trotzdem, Schwarz geht immer. Egal ob bei Kleidung – das kleine Schwarze – oder bei Make-up – Smokey eyes.


#: Dein liebstes Make-up?

Hmmm, das ist gar nicht so leicht zu beantworten. Ich habe keine bestimmte Lieblings-Marke, sondern Lieblings-Stücke von verschiedenen Marken. Dazu zählen zB Lippenstifte von MAC in den Farben „Ruby-Woo“, „Lady Danger“ oder „Diva“ oder die Augenbrauenstifte von Catrice (gibt es in 3 verschiedenen Nuancen), die Highlighter-Palette von Sleek usw. Wenn ich mich selber schminke, ist es wie bei jedem anderen auch, ich experimentiere nicht viel herum sondern lande am Ende des Tages meist beim selben Make-up -> Mascara, Bronzer und, das ist mein good-to-go Ding, ein auffallender Lippenstift, fertig!


Wenn die Frage war, mein liebster Make-up-Look den ich geschminkt habe...

Das kann ich so leider gar nicht beantworten. Denn jedes Mal, wenn ich jemanden schminke, lasse ich mich von den unterschiedlichsten Dingen inspirieren und das Endergebnis gefällt mir immer. Bei mir steht keiner auf, solange ich nicht 100% zufrieden bin.


#: Ein absolutes make-up NO-GO

Das Schöne an Make-up ist, es ist alles erlaubt. Man kann es ja zum Glück einfach abwaschen. Für mich persönlich ist ein absolutes NO-GO, wenn zu viel drauf ist oder unsauber gearbeitet wurde.



Guy Debast (stylist):


#: Dein liebstes Märchen?

Generell mag ich keine Märchen… doch das Styling für „Das Tapfere Schneiderlein“ hat sehr viel Spaß gemacht und ich mag unsere Interpretation in „WE ARE ALL JUST STORIES“. Dabei ist der Schneider eine schlaue, intelligente, selbstbewusste Frau, die Couture Kleidung von Juergen Christian Hoerl trägt.


#: Dein liebstes Kleidungsstück?

Für die Ausstellung habe ich ausschließlich mit ÖSTERREICHISCHEN DESIGNERN gearbeitet und das war toll…es war eine Bereicherung mit ihnen Ideen auszutauschen und ich bin beeindruckt wie detailreich manche Designs sind und wie viel Arbeit in manchen Kleidern und Accessoires steck – z.B. die Couture Roben der „Prinzessin auf der Erbse“ von Simon Barth.


#: Der Unterschied für dich, zwischen Mode und Stil?

Für mich ist Mode damit verbunden, was ich trage, was wiederum ein Spiegel dessen ist, was es da draußen alles so gibt.

Stil findet man in sich, die Selbstwahrnehmung, meine Identität und meine Auffassung von was ich bin, definiert mit Mode.

In a few days the photo exhibition „We are all just Stories“ will be opened as part of the Mariahilfer Frauenwochen. This community project of Sigrid Mayer, Christine Akbaba and Guy Debast shows fairy tales in a modern perspective. The opening night takes place on October 19th at 7 pm at the EGA Lounge, the exhibition can be visited until November 3rd.


We asked these 3 creatives for a short interview.



Sigrid Mayer (photographer):


#: With which prominent person would you like to do a photo shooting?

David Bowie. Unfortunately that ship has sailed (R.I.P.), but such authenticity and enormous mutability fascinate me.

If I have to choose a living legend, Kate Moss of course. Every photographer’s dream…


#: What’s your personal photo-philosophy?

With clients clearly: good preparation And: to know your clients wishes and to meet them as far as possible.


Free photo-productions always begin with a concept.

This can be a story, a color combination, a single word, a song, …

I usually don’t have the result in my head but prefer working on visually realizing the idea during the shooting intuitively.

As soon as I realize that a subject doesn’t work out, I change it immediately – 200 shots of the same motive won’t chance a bad picture into a good one.


I find it also important to know the basic principles of the media you are working with. Besides the technical know-how of photography one should also

know the historic background – one simply should know who did what and when.


#: What is always to find in your camera bag?

Batteries, even though I only work unwillingly with a detachable flash and I hardly ever use it. And a lighter – in stressful times, sometimes only coffee and cigarettes will help.


Christine Akbaba (hair & make-up artist):


#: What’s your favorite color?

Clearly BLACK! Although it’s not a real color ;) Anyway, black always works. It doesn’t matter if it’s about clothes (the little black dress) or make-up (smokey eyes).


#: Your favorite make-up?

Hmmm, thats’s not easy to answer. I don’t have a favorite brand, but different items from various brands. Eg lipsticks from MAC in the colors „Ruby-Woo“, „Lady Danger“ and „Diva“ or the eyebrow pencil from Catrice (available in 3 nuances), the highlighter-palette from Sleek, etc. When I do my own make-up it’s like with anybody else. I don’t experiment a lot and at the end of the day I usually end up with the same make-up -> mascara, bronzer and a striking lipstick, and I’m good to go!

If your question is, what was the favorite make-up, I ever did?

This answer is something completely different. Every time I do someone’s make-up, I get inspired by very different things and I always like the result. Nobody gets up until I’m 100% satisfied with my work and its outcome.


#: What is an absolute make-up NO-GO?

The beauty in make-up is, everything goes. Worst case you can easily remove it. My personal NO-GOs are if there is too much make-up applied or it’s simply scruffy work.


Guy Debast (stylist):


#: What’s your favorite FAIRYTALE?

In general I’m not a fairytale fan... But I really enjoyed to style "The Brave Little Tailor", and I really like the story in our Version from “WE ARE ALL JUST STORIES”. The tailor is a clever, intelligent, and confident woman, wearing Juergen Christian Hoerls couture collection.


#: Your favorite piece of clothing?

For this exhibition I really enjoyed to work with AUSTRIAN DESIGNERS only... it was such a pleasure to meet and exchange ideas with all them... I’m impressed about the details and the hours of work that were put in some of the dress and accessories, e.g. of Simon Barth COUTURE in the PRINCESS AND THE PEA.


#: What defines the difference between fashion and style for you?

For me Fashion is connected to what I’m wearing. What I’m wearing is a match for what’s out there.

Style is about "what’s in here", the sense of myself, my identity, my perception of who I am and how I express it with fashion.​
