With Thatgamecompany's three games on one disc who could go wrong, only someone who played the wrong game first. I kicked the collectors edition off with flower, from the moment I started playing I was submerged, with the outstanding visuals that are really bought to life with the colours in the environment, to the sound of the wind playing through the speaker of the PS4 controller when you finally let the petal fly but also the sounds of wind as you glide up through the luscious grass, along with gentle background music it adds that extra depth to the title. Controlling the petal to begin with was a little tricky as I haven't played with many titles that use the Sixaxis capability on the PS4, but after a period of time I managed to get fully confident with how it worked. Considering the title is mainly about flower petals you would think it to be simple story, but when you play thorough the game you feel moved by what the developers have done, creating what basically equates to art.
I then thought that it would be time to trail through the beauty of Journey's desert. this title is the newest on the disc and being that I should of probably left it to last but.... ohh well. You would think that the game would feel empty as its based on in a desert, but even though the game makes you feel lonely in a solo driven environment the way the game brings such a desolate area to life with a stunning sound track really helps, though you're not necessarily always alone as the online multiplayer component allows for another random player to come join you. The controls felt solid and smooth and sooner then I wanted it was the end which was upsetting as I was enjoying the game far to much. seeming as the game has no dialogue the story really makes you have a connection with the character you control through the perilous journey, it really does pull on heart strings when you complete it.
flOw is the title I really should of started with as I personally hadn't heard much about it. Unfortunately this game fell flat because I had played and finished both Flower and Journey prior, I could see that this game had a lot going for it but I had spoiled it for myself. The controls didn't feel as well polished as flower with the turning using the Sixaxis feeling awkward in comparison and not as friendly and at times it could be punishing to you especially if you are like me in wanting to 100% a title. Another reason I didn't enjoy it that much is because I didn't feel for the organism, I had no connection with it in the slightest which kinda made the experience feel insignificant to me.
I would highly recommend this bundle to anyone even though I personally wasn't taken with flOw, don't let that put you off though because to be honest my downhearted review is based upon my own stupidity for not playing it first because I'm sure I would have enjoyed it if I did, either way if you want unique stories with elegant atmosphere I would suggest you check these out.
