Armello is a kingdom ruled by a lion-king but no his name isn't Mufasa, this king has been corrupted by a dark force called The Rot and you take control of one of four animal representatives from 4 different clans who rise up to overthrow the king and return order to their world.
The game is set out like a board game, each time you play the map is randomly generated so dungeons, forests, swamps, towns or mountains are never in the same place as previous rounds. Each tile on the board is set as a hexagon with different events occurring on each, such as a dungeon to explore, a quest to complete, or a rival to defeat. The title has a Dungeons and Dragons feel to it with each character having different abilities and status' which makes them all varied but not one specifically better then the other. As the game plays out each turn you get to draw new card all with distinct differences from weapons you can attach to yourself to make you stronger, magic traps you can cast on the board or on other characters to inflict damage, or trickery cards that can steal money away from them. The controls felt great and at no point did I encounter any issues with how they feel.
The art work is stunning with a lot of attention to detail from the characters movements as they walk across the tiles, down to the environments and the art on each card which each has a moving image attached to it, even though all the same tiles like mountains and forests are the same as each other, the randomly generated map rotates these pieces as their placed so they look different.
The subtle background music in the game give a fantasy element to it without you really noticing as it's not too overpowering for what is going on in the game. The sounds of walking, fighting or a new bane appearing all produced the same sounds through the game which can prove a tad confusing but really didn't phase me as the game tells you whats going on anyway without you really having to focus on the other characters.
Personally if you are into titles like Civilization, Total war or you love Dungeons and Dragons you'll love this, the games are very quick and yet still have a depth to it that you would want from a strategy title. I really think this title is outstanding and has so much re-playability, though the only one downside is every so often I fancied playing against people online but this always took a fair amount of time but I think that's because not enough people know about this game, so come on people get your wallets out.
Armello is out now on PS4, Android, iOS, Microsoft Windows, Linux, Mac OS
