GemStone





Code Name: Gemstone is a web app for factory security consultants. It is a tool to assist assessment of factory network security against government standards in China. This is a unique application that is designed specifically for the multiple usage modes on an Lenovo Yoga Ultrabook. Users can use it like an laptop, in tablet mode or with an stylus throughout their evaluation process. The product was the Winner of Innovation Product Design award in 2016 CAMRS - China.

Gemstone is a project that challenged me to evolve my design based on the environment of the user. Different from designing distinctive experience for desktop or mobile, I had to create a fluid design that can interchange the usage modes. To cater towards the various types of tests, I have also designed a flexible workflow for the consultant to customize their evaluation process. Since the Lenovo Yoga is a high resolution screen with 3200 X1800 IPS on a 9” screen, I used the progressive disclosure technique and present information as needed for my content structure approach.

I learned a great deal about the pros and cons regarding ultrabook, and had a in-depth study on the metro design OS system that comes with the ultrabook. It is a great experience to design in a scroll-like interface. Here is some concept art of the product interface in metro design style:
