Nele Ouwens is a visual artist, who mainly specializes in oil painting. During her interdisciplinary studies of Liberal Arts Nele focused on artworks and movements that blur the boundaries between art and life and got interested in systems theory and perceptual philosophy like contructivism.
Her paintings evolve from an eclectic process of collecting and combining references from various cultural fields as well as from her own experiences. Her motives range from quirky and mysterious to melancholic and minimalistic, many of them like the e.g. the rear-view figures allow for identification and speculation at the same time.
‘Artistic practice for me is a experimental form of communication. It is a way of exploring the construction of meaning by connecting or isolating motives’, she describes her approach. ‘I am not interested in telling stories with my paintings. Instead I am asking what the story could be.’
