What is reusable menstrual cup anyway?
Basically, a menstrual cup is an item for hygiene used by women during their period. Its function is to avoid menstrual blood from getting into clothes and the underwear. Since it is a reusable type, a single cup can be reused for even up to five years (and perhaps more). Actually, it is just like using a sanitary napkin or tampons but may also differ in a lot of ways which will be briefly discussed later in this article.
How to use it?
Generally speaking, menstrual cups are made out of high-grade quality, soft materials (silicone). It shapes like a bell and has a stem to facilitate insertion and removal from the women's private organ. When it is full of menstrual blood, approximately 4 to 12 hours (but may vary per individual), the cup has to be removed, blood discarded, cleaned up, and then reinserted. Further, once the period is done, the menstrual cup must be decontaminated by boiling it for at least five minutes and then stored in strategic and hygienic places to be used for the next menstrual cycle.
How is it different from the traditional sanitary napkins and tampons?
There's a lot actually. While sanitary napkins and tampons absorb menstrual blood and fluids, a menstrual cup collects it. And while the former needs to be discarded in a trash bin, the fluids in the latter feminine product is fine to be flushed out in the toilet - more hygienic, more eco-friendly per say. In fact, it was declared as safe to use by US FDA. Obviously, the traditional sanitary napkins and tampons are not reusable while menstrual cups natural are, which means that you can save more money from it in the long run.
Are there different types of Menstrual Cups?
Basically, menstrual cups vary in sizes, models, and quality. The final choice of which type to use depends on what suits the user best. While there are great brands exist out there like the lunette cup or the lena cup review, it would still be a good idea to personally read product reviews; or maybe consult a Gynecologist for this matter, before making your final decision which one to purchase.
