ISM, or Independent Study and Mentorship, is a highly selective and advanced academic program offered in the Frisco Independent School District that gives students the opportunity to choose a career study of their choice and conduct extensive research throughout the year. Students in ISM seek out a mentor in their chosen field of study. At the conclusion of the year, students present their research through independent study and through their mentorship in a formal presentation setting.
ISM is a rigorous course that requires immense hard work and responsibility, as students are trusted to leave campus for professional interviews and mentor visits. The highly self-guided course is offered to juniors and seniors. Students in ISM are allowed to opportunity to learn about creating and building portfolios and resumes, presenting themselves in a professional manner, and more highly valuable skills that will benefit them in the future as they enter into the professional world.
