I did more of the same this past week of ISM. With the grading period coming to a close, there weren’t many actual assignments to turn in, but that didn’t mean that my work paused completely. After my mentor visit on Monday, which I wrote about in my last blog, I found an article about how feeling in control contributes to anxiety. This article was shown to me by my ISM teacher, and I don’t think she knew how perfectly it would end up fitting into my final product. Helping teens feel more in control is definitely a topic that I can dive into in the video that I will make targeted toward adults. With all the research I had done before, control surprisingly wasn’t a concept that had been brought up before. After reading the article, I had a thought most closely resembling something along the lines of: “duh!” Of course teens would feel anxious if they didn’t trust in their own ability to make decisions. After growing up for 18 years with adults making almost every decision for you, and sitting in a school system where nearly every class you take is required, it makes sense that teens wouldn’t feel prepared to decide the rest of their lives for themselves. It’s so unfortunate that this is so often the case, and I hope to look deeper into that issue this week.
