This week in ISM I got started on some research that will help me on my original work and final product. Tomorrow I’m meeting with my mentor, so hopefully we can decide on some finishing parameters for my projects. I’ve begun research on artistic methods that help with decreasing anxiety levels, and what I’ve read so far has been very interesting. The biggest question I have is, if art continues to consistently produce positive results, why isn’t it being more widely used? I feel like creative methods of therapy need to be opened up more to the public. Before ISM, I didn’t know any of these methods existed. I’ve been really inspired by the work of Brene Brown, and my mentor has encouraged me to look more into spoken word poetry, which I’m doing currently. Unfortunately, my ISM journey won’t take me to UNT this week, but one of the professor’s responses to my original email was pretty cool. He teaches developmental psychology, and out of every video he could’ve sent me as a reference, he sent me the TED Talk that Brene Brown did over vulnerability. I thought it was so cool that a college professor was recommending something that I had already watched. It just goes to show that ISM is the best tool to get ahead in a career.
