Interviews were recorded and later transcribed to be coded in NVIVO and used as supporting data

This section refers to how data is analyzed, if you wish to see how we collected our data please see the "Data Collection" page.

Interviews with local government and university representatives will be recorded and subsequently transcribed. The transcripts will be entered into NVIVO, a qualitative data analysis software that allows the researchers to ‘code’ relevant sections of the interview to be used as data points. These codes will help us determine what information gathered in a given interview, or from a primary source document, is relevant to our research questions:

Research Question 1: How do university and city collaborations most effectively further renewable energy infrastructure and reduce community-wide scope 3 emissions?

Research Question 2: What best practice facilitation methods lead to more synergistic collaboration?

Likewise, codes will be derived from our research and interview questions so that they support each other on either end and allow quotes taken from literature or interviews to be used interchangeably as support or example.

Data will be analyzed based on these variables: the strategies a university or city has used (for implementing renewables, and for decreasing emissions); techniques for collaboration with their university or city partner; barriers (for collaboration with their university or city partner, and for implementation of renewable and emissions reduction projects); relevant policy (that has aided or restricted collaboration on renewable energy and emissions reduction projects) enacted after the entity’s adoption of the most recent Climate Action Plan or Master Plan.
