As a syntax professor, I'm interested in how people combine words to form sentences.
My research into this question has focused both on trying to understand how children learn their first language, as well as investigating what knowledge adults have about their native language.
One of the great things about doing linguistics research is being able to learn new things about a variety of different languages. Some highlights have included doing research on German, Japanese, and Telugu.
