"Teasel" is a plant that was cultivated in large quantities around Kishiwada city in Osaka and elsewhere in Japan, which was prized in the finishing of woolen fabrics such as cashmere and fine coats. Currently it has been replaced by metal needles, and it is almost not cultivated in Japan. However, in Europe, which is the home of fine woolen fabrics, it is still used because of the gentle finishing that cannot be put on metal, and in Sweden where weaving and knitting are popular, it is an indispensable tool.
Because we cannot purchase it in Japan, I made hand brushes with teasels, which are barely cultivated in Japan. By rolling over the woolen fabric face, it gets brushed up and the finishing gets soft.
