The 1st Euro-Mediterranean Conference and Exhibition 2016, is organized in TRAKASOL, Limassol, 14-16 April 2016. The Conference is focusing on “Smart Urban Development and Blue Growth opportunities for Cities, Communities and Islands in the Mediterranean Basin”.



Under the auspices of H.E. the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, and the support of the Mayor of Limassol Mr. Andreas Christou, the Greek Ministry of the Environment and Energy, the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Greek Tourism Organization and the National Technical University of Athens, the Conference is attracting important speakers and participants from Europe, the United States and other countries.



The invitation for the submission of abstracts for scientific contributions with a deadline on December 20, 2015 had a very satisfactory response from scientists and academics from universities and research centers from Europe, the USA, and the Middle East. Papers will undergo a peer review process in order to be considered for publication by Springer Publications and the Journal of Urban Technology (JUT).



The conference theme focuses on the Mediterranean region and in particular on cities and island communities, attempting to highlight approaches, solutions and technologies for them to get "smarter" and gain support in their efforts towards the sustainable management of their functions. An important dimension of cities and island communities, to be discussed in the conference, is associated with the policy direction of "Blue Growth", and the sustainable development of tourism destinations in the Mediterranean, covering inter alia "smart tourism", "smart transport", "smart energy" etc.



The aim of the Conference is to bring together academia, industry and local authorities, to present recent scientific knowledge developments and technology innovations/products/services to city representatives for serving their efforts to achieve smart and blue growth objectives. Conference sessions will be dedicated to presenting and exhibiting smart developments, products and solutions; and elaborating on ideas for proposal preparation and creation of partnerships, exploring potential funding from forthcoming European calls addressing issues that are relevant to local authorities (e.g. telecommunications, transport, tourism) and industries’ interests related to the issues of smart cities and blue growth.



The Conference and Exhibition is organized by the Smart Cities Mediterranean Cluster (SMART-MED) managed by CNE Business Development Ltd and Papadopoulos & Schinis Productions Ltd, in cooperation with the National Technical University of Athens, Greece and the KIOS Research Center of the University of Cyprus. The Main Sponsor of the Conference is Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA).
