Second sight is an interactive VR fashion show, a project done by 5 students from Medialab Amsterdam, in cooperation with fashion brand Van de velde (http://www.vandevelde.eu/nl) and individual fashion designer Jacob Kok (http://cargocollective.com/jacobkok). 3 virtual outfits are designed from sketch and displayed with simulation in a virtual environment set up in Unity 3D. By looking through a VR glass such as Oculus Rift users could enter this virtual environment and interact with the 3D clothing.

The concept of second sight starts from the question "How could 3D technology help build a more efficient and sustainable design process for fashion industry?". We first conducted a thorough research on both the design process of fashion industry and available 3D packages and technology, finally came up with a solution which allows our clients to see and brand their designs before mass production.

Outfits:

The three outfits are first designed and textured in Clo 3D, and then simulated with animation exported from Maya. We used an Xsens motion tracking suit to capture the motion data of a model, for whom we have designed specific movements. These motions were then made into animations in Maya and imported into Clo 3D.

Environment:

Modelled, textured and animated in Maya and 3ds Max.

Interactions:

Created in Unity 3D. Users could use arrow keys on a keyboard (PC version) or a bluetooth controller (mobile version) to "walk around" in the virtual environment. When the user approaches one outfit it will trigger the simulation of the clothing as well as the animation of the environment.
