"Drums Attack" is a mobile phone game developed as a part of the assignments of the HCI course. The idea starts first from my observation of a commonly-used approach in most rhythm games: hitting a falling note, and then from the arise of a question: does a rhythm game player improve his/her sense of rhythm through this approach? If not, what could be a possible way to realise this? Furthermore, we would like to create our own rhythm game which could explore and experiment on this approach.

A research concerning this question was conducted by us among a specific group of internet users. We asked in details about their feedback on traditional rhythm games, and their expectations on our new game. In the new game, we redesigned the way how a player scores: instead of hitting a falling note, he/she will have to hit the responding drum buttons when recognising a rhythm pattern in the music. The drums will then "shoot" a note that goes up to the top of the screen, hitting a hidden line which judges if this is a correct rhythm note. If the player loses the track of the rhythm, he/she could seek for visual aids through a "help" button.

There are 3 levels in this game, a tutorial, a mid-level song (yellow-cold play) and a high level song (Homeboy-Eric Chruch). Several individuals were invited for game testing and their feedback was recorded for further improvement.
