During the interview, Dr. Bellanger gave me great insight into the life of a medical student interested in surgery. She gave me extremely valuable advice on how to go about selecting a major, preparing for the MCAT, how to survive residency, and the process of selecting a specialty. She reinforced the idea that in order to truly succeed, I must put in the required effort. She told me that this field isn’t easy, and effort is a necessity. While this information would scare off many, it only excites my desire to pursue excellence, no matter the amount of difficulty it may entail.

Not only did I gain knowledge on the rigorous education for people in this career, but I also learned about the use of robotic surgery in OB-GYN. Dr. Bellanger performs anywhere from 2 to 15 robotic surgeries a month, usually hysterectomies and removals of ovarian cysts. She believes the Da Vinci is the by far the best advancement in surgery in recent years, with movement and visualization 100 times better than laparoscopic surgery. This only assured me that the revolutionary surgical device is worthy of all its praises and is well-worth studying. The interview first-hand confirmed everything I had researched about the Da Vinci, which was incredibly encouraging.
