Weekly Update

While I was unable to go on a mentor visit this past week, I spent a lot of time working on my Final Product instead. I would like to dedicate this weekly blog to an update on my work thus far.

At this point, I have essentially completed all of the research and framework that will be necessary in ensuring my Product is a success. My mentor has helped me understand the current need for specific training materials in robotic surgery, allowing me to outline exactly what I hope to accomplish. I have written a draft of the tools currently used in robotic surgery training, the very few that exist. I plan on using this information to establish the need for what I plan on creating, showing how essential it will be to aspiring robotic surgeons.

I am very thankful for the immense amount of help my mentor has given me in finishing my product. He is almost equally excited about it as I am and has even helped me by purchasing materials that he thought would be ideal in helping it function to perfection. I have been able to take those materials and ideas and expand upon them, mostly finishing my base model of my training device.

In order to bring my Product to completion, I will need to finish up my prototype and create a written portion evaluating my device. My goal is to get this paper publishable or able to send it to a marketing team at Intuitive Surgical. Adherence to my schedule will be crucial in order to fully complete every aspect of my project, and continuing my mentor visit schedule will be key.
