week of 2/18 - 2/24

Weekly Update

This week, I was unable to go on a mentor visit due to a college visit, but this just allowed me to dedicate even more time to the development of my Final Product.

The end of the fourth six weeks was this week, meaning I only have one more six weeks of my senior year that will count toward my class rank. This can make it easy to slack off or give up on school, but I am determined to finish the school year strong, particularly in my ISM endeavors. Because I get to choose my own learning and pace myself in ISM, I much prefer completing work for this class over any other. I am especially passionate about my Final Product, which further spurs my dedication to the course.

I have not spent much time explaining my Final Product thus far on my weekly blog, so now is as good a time as any to do so. Essentially, my Final Product is a da Vinci training tool that will be simple for any aspiring robotic surgeon to replicate. My year in ISM 1 was focused on training materials and novice surgeon education, so I find it very fitting that my last project in ISM will revolve around the same idea. We aim to acquire materials like wooden peg boards and rubber tubing to simulate the skills needed by a robotic surgeon, giving them the feel of operating with the da Vinci on a simplified tool. My Final Product is one both my mentor and I are very excited about, and every mentor visit he gives me new inspiration and additional ideas for it. More to come on my Final Product in blogs to follow!
