Upon arriving to Medical City Plano, I met with Dr. Heffernan and we proceeded to go on his rounds. He had four patients to see, all patients he had operated on wither the day before or earlier in the week. I had the privilege of observing as he checked up on each and every one of them, listening to information he relayed regarding their surgeries. All four cases had been done robotically, and Dr. Heffernan described each of them to me in detail.

After seeing all of his patients, Dr. Heffernan had to update his patients’ charts and relay to his nurse any special orders that needed to be filled. He told me this is one of his least favorite parts about his job, because he dislikes all of the tedious paperwork and records involved. From here, it was onto his clinic to see patients. I had to return to school before his clinical time, but prior to leaving I was able to get Dr. Heffernan’s advice on my Final Product proposal. He was very supportive of my idea, encouraging me and offering his assistance in any way I might need it in the completion of this project. I know that with my mentor’s help I will be able to craft a successful Final Product, one that will aid both him and the medical community, and I cannot wait to get started on it.
