What does God say about leadership? What are some biblical references to back it up? Let's find out together! Keep reading!!!
A good leader follows God’s commands. If a leader follows his ways rather than God's ways, then he is doomed from the beginning. This is the most important step of all if you want to be a godly leader. It can also be one of the hardest. Sometimes God will do things that don't seem to make sense at the time but if you follow His commands completely, you will see the ways in which he orchestrates his plans. Isaiah 55:9 says "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts are higher than your thoughts."
A good leader is modest. Modesty is an attractive quality in a leader primarily because it is often difficult to give God the credit he deserves rather than take the credit yourself. Luke 14:11 says "For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
A good leader makes peace. Peace is an integral part of any organization, and it is the leader's responsibility to oversee that that peace is maintained. This requires a great deal of patience and understanding and ability to resolve disputes. Psalms 34:14 says "Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it."
A good leader elects constructive people to provide accountability. Surround yourself with people that will give you the complete, unfettered truth. Don't surround yourself with people who will always tell you what they think you want to hear. Proverbs 27:17 says "Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another."
A good leader is a good learner. If you have an open mind and an eagerness to learn new things, you will thrive as a leader. You have to be open to new suggestions because they just may open up a new avenue of success! Proverbs 1:5 says "Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance."
A good leader is humble. Many times when we see a leader fall, the root cause is pride. The fall of man was caused by mankind being prideful enough to say "I can make my own decisions". Be humble. Even if its hard. Proverbs 11:12 "When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom."
As you read through these qualities of a godly leader, hopefully you find them difficult. God tells us how to be effective, godly leaders. We must put aside our human nature to fulfill this calling.
