How can you train yourself to be humble? In Matthew 5 Jesus said 'Blessed are the meek', meaning that the humble will be blessed. But in a world and culture such as this one, we often wonder if its possible to be humble. The problem is a lot of people see humility as weakness, but truly it is strength. It takes more strength to say "God, you did that" instead of "Wow look what I accomplished". A perfect example of humility is found in Daniel 2. Daniel and his friends pray relentlessly to God to reveal to them a secret, and when God answered their prayer, Daniel went before the king and before anything else, gave all the glory to God. This is how we are called to live. When God answers prayers, we are to thank him first. There are ways to help yourself remember to do this. A popular method is keeping a prayer request journal. Write down everything you pray for and then look at the list frequently to see what requests God has answered. You will begin to see that God answers prayers a lot more than we realize and seeing that will help you to be humble and realize how much God really is responsible for. Also, a sure way to gain humility is to ask God for help. Ask him to humble you and to help you to remember to stay humble in the presence of others. James 4:6b says 'Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”'
