Anti Gravity
This is a new kind of workout invented by aerial performer Christopher Harrison, a former gymnast and athlete. It involves performing a series of exercises inspired by yoga, pilates, calisthenics and aerial acrobatics using a hammock-like apparatus in order to achieve a total-body workout. Think Cirque du Soleil for gym-goers and yoga buffs - it’s also incredibly good fun.
The benefits
Apart from being a major stress-buster due to its high fun quotient, there are some serious health benefits associated with the practice, anyone that has back issues should be doing this class as it gives you the chance to hang freely allowing your spine to lengthen and decompress. It also helps to increase strength and flexibility, as well as bring you greater awareness of your body, a real mind-body-spirit experience.
This practice combines several different exercise styles, lots of people who aren’t into yoga still do Anti Gravity and while you’ll still find yoga favourites like down dog and cat-cow, you’ll also get to experience new moves like vampire and chandelier. Every class features inversions so that participants can enjoy a spinal decompression.
