EF 5342 (MS) Financial Systems, Markets, and Instruments
This course aims to develop students’ ability to analyze the structure, operations and functions of financial markets and institutions in Hong Kong and other leading financial centers. Students will work on current issues and consolidate what they learn in the classroom. The case discussions, based on current issues, will enrich students’ knowledge and understanding. They will make use of the information they obtain from the case study to analyze current issues.

ECON 25000 (UG) Introduction to Finance
The objective of this course is to introduce the students to the basic principles used in investment decisions and their applications to pricing financial assets and portfolio management. These principles show up in the relationship between risk and return, diversification, pricing by equilibrium and no-arbitrage approaches. The course consists largely of four parts: (1) portfolio theory and the derivation of efficient frontier, (2) Asset pricing models such as Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) and Arbitrage Pricing Theory (APT), (3) analysis of fixed income securities, and (4) introduction to options and futures. Upon completing this course, you will learn how to apply their knowledge to the valuation of stocks, bonds, and financial derivatives such as options as futures, and to the basic asset allocation decisions. Therefore, this course will be especially useful for students who are considering a career in investment/portfolio management area. This course also lays foundation for more advanced finance courses.
